A Short Biography

Better known as "Professor Pooch" by his friends, students, clients, and 1,000s of others in the Music Industry, [David J. Spangenberg] has been a Music & Music Business Consultant, Advisor, Educator, Mediator and Contract Specialist for almost 30 years, guiding the careers of many past, present and future Singers, Songwriters, Musicians, and Producers, on the Creative side, and as a Consultant to many Managers, Music Publishers, Production Companies, Indie Record Companies and Attorneys on the Business and Contractual side. Mr. Spangenberg was born and still lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, with his wife Karen and his daughter Gabrielle.

A Violinist at age 8, a Singer/Guitarist at 13, a Keyboardist, Arranger and Producer by 16, Professor Pooch has always been interested in Music and the Music Industry. He received his first Professional break at 16 when Producer Jimmy Ienner [3 Dog Night, The Raspberries, Eric Carmen, etc.] met him while listening to a group he was Producing. Meanwhile, a song he wrote with another writer for another Artist was coming out on a Major Label - without his name on it! At that point he decided he better step back and learn and experience the Business and Legal Side of The Music Business as well!!!

To make a very long story very short, while given the "star treatment" as a Singer-songwriter with a couple of major "Hit Record Producers", Jimmy Ienner and Gene McDaniels [Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight, etc.], Professor Pooch picked up everything he could from his music business "surroundings", working in and around Studios, Publishing, Management and Recording Companies. Starting in the early '80's, many frustrated creative and business oriented individuals and companies started coming to him asking for help regarding their careers. David realized how much he really enjoyed helping people "Get In, Survive, and Succeed - Without Getting Ripped Off", and he found himself guiding many people's careers for many years.

In 1991 he was asked to develop and teach the "Artist Management", "Songwriting/Music Publishing", and "Entertainment Law" Courses at the "Art Institute of Philadelphia" in the various Music Business Departments. It was there, that David realized how much he loved teaching and helping others as much as he enjoyed making music. David's courses and his 342 page book, which was required reading for over 2,500 students, are now commercially available on 1 disk ["The Music Biz On A Disk™], or by Downloads, which are always up-to-date, keeping up with the constant changes and happings in the Music Industry.

Lately, "The Professor" has created and recorded his first Music Business Radio Show "PoochCast™"s and is in the process of performing/recording/producing many other Music Business Video and Multimedia products.

Professor Pooch is known as a catalyst who gets people moving forward in a positive frame of mind - and therefore a positive direction. His talent and experience in the creative, business and legal/contractual sides of Music, as well as his uncanny insight into people, and finally his enjoyment in helping people achieve their dreams, make him a valuable resource to all in the Music Business Industry.
