A Short Biography

David J. Spangenberg, also known as "Professor Pooch" by his friends, students, clients, and others in the Music Industry, has been a Music & Music Business Consultant, Advisor, Educator and Contract Specialist for almost 30 years, guiding the careers of many past, present and future Singers, Songwriters, Musicians, and Producers, etc. He also has much experience as a Consultant to many Music Publishers, Managers, Production Companies, Indie Record Companies and Attorneys. David was born and still lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA.

A Violinist at age 8, a Singer/Guitarist at 13, a Keyboardist at 16, an Arranger and Producer at 20, David has always been interested in Music, with his main love being Songwriting. He received his first Professional break at 16 when Jimmy Ienner (former Senior VP at Virgin Records) met him while listening to a group David was Producing. Meanwhile, a song David wrote with another writer was coming out on a Major Label - without his name on it! David at that point decided he better step back and learn and experience the Business Side of The Music Business as well!!!

To make a very long story very short, while given the "star treatment" as a Singer-songwriter with a couple of major "Hit Record Producers", Jimmy Ienner and Gene McDaniels [Roberta Flack, Gladys Night, etc.], David picked up everything he could from his music business "surroundings", working in and around Publishing, Management and Record Companies. Almost simultaneously, many frustrated Singers, Songwriters and Musicians, Producers, etc., started coming to him asking for help regarding their careers. David realized how much he really enjoyed helping people "Get In, Survive, and Succeed - Without Getting Ripped Off™", and he found himself guiding people's careers.

In 1991 he was asked to develop and teach the "Songwriting/Music Publishing", "Artist Management", and "Entertainment Law" Courses at the "Art Institute of Philadelphia" in the various "Music Business" Departments. It was there, that David realized he loved teaching and helping others as much as he enjoyed making music. David's courses and his 300 page book [which was required reading for over 2,500 students], are now commercially available on 1 disk ["The Music Biz On A Disk™"]

Presently, besides guiding and representing many creative, musical and entertainment business clients, David lends his expertise to several non-profit agencies, helping underprivileged youth "Get in, Survive and Succeed - Without Getting Ripped Off!" He also writes and runs professorpooch.com a large Music Biz Education and Resource Center Web Site.

David is known as a catalyst who gets people moving forward in a positive frame of mind - and therefore a positive direction. His talent and experience in both the creative and business sides of Music, as well as his uncanny insight into people, and finally his enjoyment in helping people achieve their dreams make him a valuable resource to all in the Entertainment Industry.
